Eligibility: The 2009 Baby Calendar Photo Contest is open to all residents of the United States. Contest is open to photos of children taken prior to their 4th birthday. Employees of The Daily Star and The Cooperstown Crier as well as immediate family members are not eligible to win.Entry Period: Contest will begin at 12:01 am April 28, 2009 and ends June 16, 2009 at 5:00 p.m.
How to Enter: Enter by submitting a completed Entry form as well as a photo of the baby and a $10 entry fee (cash, check, money order, credit card). Entries must be submitted by an adult 18 years or older at the time of submission. Sorry, no refunds. Photo of the baby must have been taken prior to the child's 4th birthday (regardless of current age). Digital photos must be sent in jpg, gif,and tiff format and 240 dpi (at or under 1 to 2 megabytes). Only one photo entered per child. Name of baby, person submitting the photo and phone number must be listed on the back of the photo. By submitting this information, The Daily Star reserves the right to use the baby's photo and name in any print products of The Daily Star as well as on its website. Checks for entry may be made payable to The Daily Star. Photos will not be returned unless requested along with an S.A.S.E. Professional photographs, Kiosk and color printer photos cannot be accepted.
Online Entry: Visit The Daily Star's website at www.thedailystar.com. Make your payment to submit a baby photo through PayPal. Complete the entry form, upload photo and all requested information. Click Submit for your entry to be received. If a PayPal payment cannot be verified, then your entry will be considered void and will not be included in our tallies. Your computer must accept cookies, or any successor or similar technology, which may be used for entry tracking.
Mail or In Person Entry: Complete the entry form found in editions of The Daily Star as well as The Daily Star office located at 102 Chestnut Street, Oneonta, NY. Entries may be delivered or mailed to The Daily Star office. Mail to, "Baby Calendar Photo Contest", The Daily Star, PO Box 250, Oneonta, NY 13820. Entries must be postmarked by June 13, 2009 and received no later than June 16, 2009.
Photos will be published in The Daily Star on Wednesday's, June 25, July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, August 6, 13, 20, 27 and September 3, 10,17, and 24 as well as online from July 2, 2009 through September 30, 2009.
Voting and Rules: The voting period begins 12:01 am Thursday, July 3, 2009 and will end at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2009. Votes may be made at The Daily Star, mailed or online. Sorry, No refunds. Online votes must include PayPal verification #. Mailed votes must be postmarked by Friday, September 26 and received by Tuesday, September 30, 2009. In person votes as well as online votes must be received by 5:00 p.m. September 30, 2009. Voting totals will be posted online weekly.
Voting is open to the general public and costs $0.50 cents per vote (min. $5.00 or 10 votes online charge). Voting is limited to persons 18 years or older. There is no limit on the amount of votes a person can cast. Your computer must accept cookies, or any successor or similar technology, which may be used for tracking. Ad blocking software on your computer needs to be disabled so that is does not interfere with processing your entry.
The Daily Star will not be responsible for any incomplete, lost, late, postage due or illegible entries. In the event of a dispute, all online entries will be deemed to have been submitted by the owner of the ISP account from which they were sent.
Any questions regarding the number of entries submitted or the owner of an ISP account shall be determined by The Daily Star. The Daily Star reserves the right to disqualify any entries by persons determined to be tampering with or abusing any aspect of the contest.
Winner Determination: Winners will be determined by the total number of votes received. In the event of a tie, The Daily Star will randomly pick the winner from the tied entries. Winners will be announced in the October 9, 2009 edition of The Daily Star and The Cooperstown Crier.
Prizes: First place winner will receive a $2,500 U.S. Savings Bond and will have their photo published on the cover of the 2009 Baby Calendar. Second Place winner will receive a $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond. Third Place winner will receive a $500 U.S. Savings Bond. The first place winner will appear on the cover, 2nd, 3rd and the next 10 highest voted photos will appear in the 2009 Baby Calendar. Top 100 babies with the most votes will also appear in the calendar. Placement of the photos will be determined by The Daily Star. The 2009 Baby Calendar will appear in The Daily Star on Wednesday, November 26. Additional copies can be purchased at The Daily Star office beginning Monday, December 1, 2009 for a $2.00 fee while supplies last. All proceeds from the sale of the 2009 Baby Calendar photo Contest will go to the Newspaper In Education program.
Winner Notification: All parents/legal guardians of winners grant the right to The Daily Star to publish the photo of their child in the 2009 Baby Calendar. A valid photo ID of the parent or legal guardian may be required. Winners may waive their right to receive prizes. Prizes are nontransferable and there will be no substitutions allowed by winner. The Daily Star reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value. Winners are responsible for reporting and payment of any tax on prizes. Winners may be required to complete an affidavit and publicity release, which must be returned within 10 days of personal delivery or date of postmark. Failure to sign and return the affidavit or to comply with any terms or conditions of the official rules may result in disqualification and a substitute may be awarded.
Participation: By participating in the 2009 Baby Calendar contest, entrants are bound to the official rules and regulations. The Daily Star reserves the right to disqualify any persons tampering with or abusing the contest. In the event this contest is compromised by any non-authorized human intervention, tampering or other cause beyond the control of The Daily Star, The Daily Star reserves the right to suspend, modify or terminate the 2009 Baby Calendar Contest. Should the contest be terminated prior to the expiration date, The Daily Star reserves the right to award prizes based on the entries received before the termination date.
The 2009 Baby Calendar Contest is sponsored by The Daily Star and A.O. Fox Hospital. The Daily Star reserves the right to make all decisions regarding the selection of winners and all other aspects of the contest. The Daily Star will not be responsible for typographical, printing or other inadvertent errors in the Official Rules or other materials regarding the contest.
